Concept
I created this game board as a gift for one of my friends. In our friend circle, it's a tradition to always play this card game called Dixit. It involves guessing which card is associated with the word that the active player states. The cards are intentionally thought-provoking images that require careful examination. In the original game board, all the cards are laid out in a straight line. We always play the game sitting in a circle, so half the players are always unable to see the cards in the correct orientation. My Lazy-Susan redesign for this game board allows all players to see the cards right-side up.
Process
I first brainstormed different layouts for the board game, especially the center console. The directions for Dixit are a little complicated, read here for more info. I then had to glue planks of cedar wood together to create the wide area necessary for the circle shape. I also struggled with ensuring the middle ring would spin smoothly but not too quickly around the center axis. I drilled the hole a little bigger than usual and then lined it with felt to add a little bit of friction. I used a laser cutter to cut and etch all the voting tiles, and repurposed some corks as the playing pieces.
